At Frontiers, our mission to empower society through open science is reflected in our structured yet organic design approach, which seamlessly integrates collaboration, innovation, quality, and speed.

Since 2021, I have contributed to Frontiers’ brand refresh, transforming these values into a cohesive corporate image. My input to core projects has spanned digital and print projects. As a team leader and through my hands-on contribution, I have always integrated technological and process-driven improvements, elevating our value of innovation.

At Frontiers, I art-directed a new illustration style for Frontiers for Young Minds with the agency FourPlus, developed an automation system for the yearly Impact Campaign, and led my brand and outreach verticals, including the VIP journal Frontiers in Science. I also led or collaborated with fellow graphic and motion designers.

The team’s efforts really shone at the 2023 Frontiers Forum Live in Montreux, which showcased Frontiers’ design in 360°. We produced custom presentations for each speaker, an immersive room, and a complete series of physical event assets for more than 1,000 industry scientists and experts.

Milo Merah is an emerging singer from London, UK. His projects, as well as his identity focus on human feelings and and the quest for a truth about life and love that is invisible to the human eye.

Through his first project, we elaborated together a simple but effective identity that’s based on a double backslash ‘\\’ that is meant to represent a gate, or a barrier preventing us from seeing clearly. This becomes an essential element in his logo and recognition system, as the position of the backlashes, as well as other elements and/or effects, are often placed over Milo’s face to represent that inability to see clearly. The system represents the artistic investigation of Milo Merah’s music project, visually translating his ‘quest for the unknown’.

In the cover arts and promotional layouts, the backlashes and other elements play with photography and AI to innovate the identity while making it instantly recognisable.

The refreshed visual identity of Escursì uses squids to celebrate Sardinia's culinary and maritime culture, a playful touch that resonates with a brand that is all about adventure and culture.

The fluid 'squid' form builds a dynamic, winding and lively visual identity for Escursì, an agency that offers day trips and experiences for both tourists and locals. The variety in proportions and quantities of squids and blobs leads to unconventional design flexibility, ensuring no layout is ever boring—the same goes with the activities they offer.

aquí is a furniture shop where customers become creators. Hands and tools shape the visual identity, transforming layouts into lively scenes echoing real-world making.

aquì, a hands-on, DIY furniture workshop, becomes a nest where consumers don’t only shape raw materials but the way we perceive consumption, with a focus on the local community. Craftsmanship and creativity are aquí's main characters; hence, hands and tools represent them. Every application creates a system of interaction with the other elements in its surroundings, whether the typography on a layout or people in the physical environment.

In this multidisciplinary master project, we started by curating the business plan and brand strategy, naming, and tone of voice, moving into the visual identity and applications, making it a full-round process. To demonstrate the flexibility of the visual system, we divided aquì into five key sub-projects: an audiovisual piece, responsive digital platforms, packaging design, an editorial piece and spatial graphics

What do you do when a global pandemic prevents you from showcasing a year of design effort and excellence? You create an online website to enact your degree show :-)

This online platform was designed with Lukas Abubeker as an alternative showcase for the final exhibitions of the MAs in Graphic and Editorial Design @Elisava Barcelona during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To work as a digital exhibition, the homepage allows projects to be explored and selected depending on tags and categories. To allow personalisation, students were given the possibility to customise their page with custom colours and a set of different modules they could tile up as they wished.

The project was designed with Figma.
